UNLEARN'S RHYME BOOK-If I Could I Would

This is one of my favorite songs from the first mix tape I ever put out over the internet, "Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind". In my opinion, it's some of the best music I ever made. It was all due to the energy and the emotion that was in my space at the time. I feel that same kind of energy and emotion now for some of my newer work. Let's see if my new music has the same impact that this songs and others from this project had.

If I Could I Would

Chorus: Deep inside of me, there is not a single day

If I could, I would,

Change my life for you and find the key,

to set you free...

(The chorus was written and performed by a very talent vocalist by the name of Mignion. I found her on this social networking site for artist call ArtistsNow.com. I loved her tone and her whole style. All of the songs I heard from her were a mix of underground Hip Hop meets Madonna, it was so unique. I've lost touch with her over the years, but would love to do some more music with her. If she's out there, get at me!)

If I could, I would,

lead the slums to greatness,

go back in time and sneak guns on a slaveship.

(This was the line that sparked the whole concept for the song, It was the first line I thought of when I first heard the beat. The beat itself had actually been on a beat CD I got from Jake One 3 years before. It wasn't until 2005, when all the ingredients came together)

If I could, I would,

sue Hollywood, cause they stole my life story

and retitled it the Matrix.

Neo of the 'hood, I'm in a gang with Morpheus,

I hear God calling us,

so there's gotta be more to this,

If I could, I would,

take rich kids, living a nice life,

make'em see what it's like in an orphanage.

If I could, I would,

rhyme and move mountains,

and praise the Most High, cause I couldn't do it without him,

I'd speak to Brother Malcolm,

and try to talk him out of,

speaking at the Audobon, if only he knew the out come.

(For the most part, all of these bars just came to me. Once I concentrated on the concept, the words just fell into place. This is one of the rare times in my creative process where I felt something greater guiding the song. Definitely inspired work.)

I'd make my father see what my future would be without him,

maybe then, he'd think twice about packing his things and bouncin'.

I'd start rhyming at 5,

so by my teens, I'm signed,

become a legend by 20,

retire at 25,

If I could, I would,

build a masion in my hood,

die in in, listening to music from my childhood,

If I could, I would push,

to get Russel Simmons elected as President,

instead of Bush.

I'd make, every word I wrote, holier than church water,

let the whole industry know who works the hardest,

I'd spit a verse, farther beyond all of the normal,

that God will open and label,

and sign me as his first artist.

(At first, this verse was going to be the only verse in the song and I was going to let the beat ride out, but I chose to make it a whole song with two verses, a hook and bridge.)

Bridge

The real thing is, that life can never be undone,

we always can try again to find the light of the sun...

Verse II

I would reverse, everything the critics say against me

and make them all admit to their inner hatred and envy.

(When I wrote this, I was getting a lot of love on HipHopGame.com. I was recent made artist of the month and they had a song of mine posted almost every week. I remember reading a comment on one of my songs, where the person went in on me and wrote almost a page long criticism of my music and how he didn't way Hip Hop Game was showing me so much attention. This was then followed by a link for people to check out an artist he was working with. The truth is, it took me a long time for me to get on Hip Hop Game. I sent demos, links and everything for almost 4 months. Finally, 730 called me personally and told me how much he liked my music and it started from there. I always found it interesting that most people who claimed not to like my songs, didn't like them for  lack of artistry, but mainly out of frustration that they weren't able to get on the site and I was.)

I'd make, criminal and corporations trade places,

cause they are basically the same thing with different faces,

I would, have White and Black people, switch faces,

if they was in eachother's place, there'd be no racist,

I'd have my way with 30 strippers that were dirty,

find every chick that hurt me,

fuck'em raw and give herpes,

You heard me...

(I had been a year or so removed from some bad relationship stuff and my bitterness seeped through here. I thought it was a creative way of getting revenge.)

I know, it's cold,

I'd go to the mosque more,

get some mercy for my soul,

I would go out of the globe,

and rhyme with other species,

so when my album drops, aliens will by my CD

If I could,

I'd create movies from my memories,

change American morals, pay teachers like celebrities.

(Because of this line, I got a lot of fan e-mails from the children of teachers, thanking me for appreciating their importance.)

I'd put out better music,

Jesus and Muhammad,

could ressurect and come together,

and start a revolution.

If I could, I would do it,

make the planet a better place,

based off my influence.

I'd tell these White girls the truth,

who think they look good,

where those god damn, ugly ass,

fuzzy as boots.

(This was right at the beginning of the Ugz bootz craze that hasn't seemed to leave us yet. To this day, I don't get the appeal of those awful looking things.)

If i could, I would,

get a bazooka and blast through,

the Federal Reserve,

give the ghetto what I earned.

In this record man, I learned, through the burn of the fire,

I can do anything I desire,

If I could, I would...
